The HUGE Lagoon

A 100,000 gallon indoor lagoon!  This major feature of the show will be the venue for wakeboarding stunts, and beautiful new boats on display.  No other Boat Show in North America has such an indoor property capable of displaying floating boats of this size and holding real aerial wakeboarding demonstrations with pros being pulled at speeds over 25 mph and wowing the crowd with acrobatic feats.

Big Air Wakeboard Show

Pro wakeboarders will be at the Huge Lagoon to show off their amazing skills throughout the weekend.  Wakeboarding right in the convention center!  Watch pro wakeboarders perform their best aerial maneuvers with high splashing fanfare.  Action Water Sports of Hudsonville, one of Boating Industry Magazine's Top 100 dealers in the U.S., will bring these performances to West Michigan for the 5th year.  No Boat Show in North America has such an indoor property capable of displaying floating boats of this size and holding real aerial wakeboarding demonstrations.  Don't miss your chance to see this action sport up close!

Immediately following the Big Air Wakeboard Show meet the pros and the crew from Action Water Sports.  They'll be on hand to answer your questions and give you some tips.  Get ready for summer fun!

Action Water Sports and Placid Wake Park team riders Ben DeKleine, Scot Ferwerda, Ben Herrema, and Jon Nadolski will provide the high flying action.  Professional wakeboarders Clayton Underwood and Adam Errington will be joining them on the weekend, Friday - Sunday!

Meet Professional Wake Boarders Clayton Underwood & Adam Errington and Pro Waterskier Jon Travers!

Pro wakeboarders Clayton and Adam will be at the Show throughout the weekend (Friday-Sunday) to take part in the Big Air Wakeboard Show and sign autographs! 

It is hard to find a rider with more passion for the sport than Clayton Underwood!  His riding speaks for itself, his down to earth persona blows everyone away.  Clayton is from the Midwest and has been traveling and competing in wakeboarding for the past 3 years.  His accomplishments include the 2010 TN Wake Fest Outlaw Champion, 2009 Wake Games Champion Men's 1, 2009 USA Nationals Champion Men's Open, 2008 WWA World 2nd Place Men's 1, and the 2008 WWA Nationals 3rd Place Men's 1.  Clayton is sponsored by Hyperlite, Quicksilver and Oakley.  

Adam Errington, coming to us from Orlando, FL, is sponsored by Ronix, Nike 6.0, Red Bull and Fox.

Also, pro slalom skier Jon Travers will be at the Show on the weekend, hanging out at the Action Water Sports Pro Shop.  Jon is from Groveland, FL and has be competing for the past 17 years.

Grand City Show Skiers

The 2010 Division II National Show Ski Champion Grand City Show Skiers will be performing a live demonstration of many aspects of show skiing, including Human Pyramids.  Show Skiing is extremely popular in the upper Midwest, and practiced throughout the nation.  Show skiing combines components of all water ski disciplines.  Water ski shows are an aquatic Broadway musical, featuring several water ski acts choreographed to music and built around a theme that tells a story. 

Unique to show skiing are ballet / swivel skiing, adagio doubles, freestyle jumping and human pyramids.  Grand City Show Skiers is an amateur club, which usually has 30 or more members.  Age is not a factor since ski club performers can range from children to grandparents.  Grand City is a family oriented, non-profit club that has been entertaining the West Michigan communities for over 25 years.

Grand Rapids Rowing Association

Stop by the Grand Rapids Rowing Association's booth while at the show for a chance to see a variety of rowing equipment, such as shells and oars, engage in a friendly competition with friends on the rowing machine, and view videos of rowing races from Grand Rapids, as well as around the country and abroad.

Antique and Classic Boats

An impressive display of wooden boats, presented by the Water Wonderland Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, will once again be on display at the Boat Show.  Members of the Water Wonderland Chapter will be on hand to answer questions and share stories from days gone by.  Visit www.wwcacbs.com for more information.

This boat is a 15' runabout that was discovered in Port Clinton, OH and restored in 2007.  It has a 1952 manual start, with a 25 hp Johnson engine.  All of the wood is original.

This 18' Islander inboard runabout was originally constructed in Sandusky, OH by Lyman.

1946 Garwood

A very rare Gar Wood.  These stylish creations became the sports cars for the nautical set, providing high-speed thrills and summertime escape from the hum-drum of the nine-to-five, Post War life.  Only about a dozen 17'6" 1946 Gar Woods were ever produced.  This model was intended to provide a fast, flashy boat to compete with other brands.  It has seating for 6, will cruise at about 40 mph, and has an attractive and innovative design.  Only four are known to still exist today!  

The Gar Wood that will be on display at the Boat Show was the third in line to leave the production plant in Marysville, MI, finding it's home in Seattle, WA where it remained until 2006, then moved to Ada, MI.  The boat has all of its original framing and has not had any wood replace din the hull or on the deck.

This 17' Launch was originally used from approximately 1919-1922 on the Indian River.

Miss Lizzy was restored by an 11 year old boy, Will, who worked alongside his grandfather.  They found the boat behind a barn in Portage, and took it from there to bring life back to the boat.  Will was involved in every aspect of the restoration.  They bought an antique 5.4 hp Evinrude engine to add it, which allowed for Will to be able to drive the boat, even at a young age.

Uncle Sam

"Uncle Sam" is a 1941 Ventnor 135-class hydroplane, originally powered by a Universal 4-cylinder engine.  The boat was modified with a V-8 engine and enhanced to be more aerodynamic to make it competitive.  Uncle Sam won several races, including the National 135 Class Championship in 1946 and 1947.  The boat has been restored with many of the original pieces.

Chris Craft Land Cruiser Travel Trailer

Antique Travel Trailer featured in the Antique Boat Display

Chris Craft manufactured these kit trailers in the mid-1950's.  This particular travel trailer was restored with the same respect and detail as any wooden boat restoration project.  All of the components that were included in the original kit are on the trailer, with the exception of the plywood floor.  The selection of the interior furnishings on the kit trailers were left up to the individual owners.

Watch a Boat Being Built!

The Water Wonderland Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society have brought in a great new feature for the Boat Show!  They will be working with some local youth groups to build a boat throughout the Show.  Be sure to stop by and see their progress.

Michigan Maritime Museum

The Michigan Maritime Museum will be at the Boat Show with a unique display.  The  Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Michigan Great Lakes and waterways maritime history and culture.  The Museum collects objects related to the maritime history of the Great Lakes with an emphasis on items pertaining to the state of Michigan.

Key West Crab Shack

Stop by the Key West Crab Shack and enjoy food from the Amway Chefs and music from Don Middlebook of The Living Soul.  The songs of beach, boat and island lovers will resonate throughout DeVos Place.
